There is so much to do when it comes to preparing healthy, satisfying meals for your whole family; it's exhausting to even think about! Grocery shopping, meal planning, size portioning, meal timing, and then there's all the different dietary and nutritional advice (gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, raw, vegan, plant-based, paleo, SCD, DASH, Mediterranean, etc etc).
What on earth should I be eating?!
The good news is that it doesn't have to be tricky. You choose what works best for you and your family.
When it comes to dinner time, many parents think it's time to PACK IN ALL THE NUTRITION at once! Dinner time is a time for us to try to come together (whenever possible) and share an experience, communicate and simply love each other. I don't know about you but whenever my tummy is full, I feel happy and content.
Sitting down with my daughter to a deliciously prepared meal (especially when it's a meal that was freshly delivered to my door) provides me with a sense of relief. One less meal to prepare = happy mommy. For instance, check out this shrimp-tastic meal from Little Green Gourmets. The Perfect Plate. Balanced with long grain rice, freshly cut crunchy green beans (not the mushy kind), and plump juicy shrimp, cooked to perfection, with a yummy dipping sauce. Totally satisfying.
We LOVE to dip in our household -- I am sure your kids will find it fun too. Shrimps are the perfect size to fit into teeny little hands, and are packed with protein, provide tons of vitamin B12, selenium (super powerful mineral), omega 3 fats and are a low mercury option for those who enjoy seafood in their diets. Their low glycemic index and calorie count make them ideal for little growing bellies. Shrimp is packed with anti-inflammatory nutrients and provide antioxidant properties, so eat up!
Check out the dessert too, which at home, we try not to make a big deal of, and offer it as part of dinner. Fresh teeny pomegranate seeds, melon, organic blackberries, and STAR FRUIT! My daughter LOVED this beautiful fruit platter, and even tried a new fruit, the tangy, slightly sweet and bitter star fruit. Such a fun idea for kids -- great to practice shapes!
Rating: 5/5 stars ***** So much fun!
